What Women Really Want: Why Men Keep Getting It Wrong
When it comes to dating, there’s often a big gap between what men think women want and what women actually want. I know this because I don’t just coach men—I talk to women every single day about dating. In fact, last month I interviewed over 100 women on the streets of New York City (you may have seen some of those clips on my viral Instagram and TikTok posts). The answers might surprise you.
Here are some of the biggest myths I see men falling for—and the truth women shared with me:
Myth #1: Women Want to Meet Online
Reality: They’d rather meet you in person.
So many men assume women prefer apps because “that’s just how people date now.” Wrong. The overwhelming feedback I heard was that women are tired of endless swiping, ghosting, and small talk that goes nowhere. They’re craving real-life connections—being approached confidently at a café, meeting at a networking event, or even just sparking a conversation while waiting in line.
👉 The takeaway: Stop hiding behind your phone. Women respect the man who can strike up a genuine, respectful conversation in real life.
Myth #2: Women Want a Bad Boy
Reality: They want a confident nice guy.
It’s true that many women admit being drawn to “bad boys.” But here’s why: it’s not the tattoos or the drama—it’s the confidence. Bad boys exude certainty in themselves, and confidence is magnetic.
But when women think long-term, they don’t want the chaos, unreliability, or heartbreak. What they actually want is a kind, respectful man who treats them well—but still carries himself with that same unshakable confidence.
👉 The takeaway: You don’t have to play games or act like a jerk. Learn how to lead with confidence while staying authentic and respectful. That’s the winning combination.
Myth #3: Do What You Think She Wants
Reality: Do what actually builds attraction.
Too many men overthink—buying extravagant gifts, agreeing with everything she says, or bending over backwards to please her. The problem? That’s not attractive. Women want a partner, not a pushover.
What women told me is this: they want a man who knows his value, who listens, who makes them laugh, and who shows up as his authentic self. Not someone trying to perform for approval.
👉 The takeaway: Confidence + kindness beats “trying too hard” every time.
Final Thoughts
Dating doesn’t have to feel like a guessing game. If you’ve been assuming women want one thing when in reality they’re craving something else, it’s time to reset your approach.
